After the big success of Superman in 2025, James Gunn’s DC Studios is back with its second big screen outing in Supergirl.

Starring Milly Alcock in the lead role along with Jason Momoa as Lobo and David Corenswet as Superman, Supergirl’s social media reaction embargo was recently lifted, and the response has been average at best.

Supergirl Social Media Reviews & Reactions Out Now

Sharing their review of the movie, one critic wrote on X, “Supergirl IMAX: works fine as summer superhero content, but not a standout. Alcock shines, happy to see her be Kara again. Lame villain & main story drags. Space weirdness for the sake of space weirdness. But Kryptonian backstory flashbacks were quite engaging. Good 2 weeks, then no repeat biz.”

Another wrote, “Craig Gillespie’s #Supergirl is a great follow-up to #Superman. It’s got the underdog rock ‘n’ roll attitude of Guardians of the Galaxy mixed with the grimy ruthlessness of a Mad Max movie. Tonally it’s a unique concoction, but it works! It’s a film about fighting for those who show up for us, and as cliche as it sounds, it also reinforces the idea that home is where the heart is.”

A third critic reacted, “Supergirl is just okay. Craig Gillespie, who’s made several things I’ve liked, doesn’t really mesh with the material, and not enough of the action scenes fully come to life. On the other hand, there’s some good character moments, flashbacks included, and Milly Alcock is great.”

A fourth critic commented, “Supergirl is… simply fine. It does the job of introducing the character, but feels a bit off. Whether that’s poor choices in the soundtrack or just a feeling of bloat on the story. Milly Alcock does admirably, but there’s nothing here that really feels memorable. #Supergirl”.

Unfortunately Supergirl is a mixed bag for me. As a fan of the comic, I was (perhaps) overly excited for the film adaptation. While Jason Momoa’s Lobo & Milly Alcock shine, some adaptation choices and a bland villain keep it from greatness. It’s, simply put, just fine. #Supergirl pic.twitter.com/4uDAvQmjYv

LETS. TALK. #Supergirl !

Millie Alcock was INCREDIBLE as Kara, channeling her struggles beautifully! Jason Momoa was BORN to play Lobo! Fun action and music with a GREAT ending… BUT the middle dragged a bit Krem was DULL. Not as good as Superman, but still a fun time! pic.twitter.com/ekHUJDjAxW

#Supergirl is a total blast. Leads with heart & smarts. A colossally awesome & audacious mashup of True Grit & Mad Max Fury Road, firing on all cylinders. Milly Alcock is a heroine for a new era. Eve Ridley is a revelation. Gillespie drops a needle like no other. @warnerbros pic.twitter.com/K3WIud3Nzp

#Supergirl — Milly Alcock is exceptional in a movie that’s otherwise disappointing. A movie that gets in its own way more times than I could count. An engaging tone & some great emotional beats are held back by an inconsistent script, a cringe Jason Momoa performance, & one of… pic.twitter.com/r9QF3qBfnQ

I just left the #Supergirl premiere and WOW. Way more SUPERMAN than expected!

The action is right up there with the best Superman movies ever made. I walked out inspired, emotional, and already wanting more—not just of Supergirl, but this entire world.

Millie Alcock absolutely… pic.twitter.com/sUDBlsgEUu

As a fan of the Woman of Tomorrow comic, I wanted to love #Supergirl but ended up thinking it was fine. More of a me problem because I can see general audience members really loving it!

Milly Alcock as Kara is brilliant. Jason Mamoa as Lobo steals scenes. Tons of heart & humor! pic.twitter.com/CxwwtdJFUF
