Netflix has been on an impressive run of releases in 2026, continuing a long trend of success since the streamer began producing and releasing original content in the early 2010s. Following K-Pop Demon Hunters’ run as one of the biggest movies of 2025, the streamer continued into 2026 with releases for movies like Emily Bader’s People We Meet on Vacation and Alan Ritchson’s War Machine. Most recently, the streamer released a new animated movie titled Swapped with Michael B. Jordan and Juno Temple, but the streamer is far from done bringing thrilling new releases soon.

In April 2025, Netflix acquired a script from Oscar-winning director Quentin Tarantino and Oscar-winning actor Brad Pitt for The Adventures of Cliff Booth. Serving as a standalone sequel to Tarantino’s 2019 hit movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which won two Oscar awards and was nominated for 10 Oscars overall, this film will see Pitt reprise his role as Cliff Booth, jumping ahead to 1977 and showing the stuntman retiring from that profession and navigating the studio system as a Hollywood “fixer.” Now, as the sequel gets ready for its release, a new update teases just how big that release will be at the end of the year.

In a new social media post on X, Netflix confirmed that The Adventures of Cliff Booth will have a two-week run in theaters before it makes its debut on Netflix. The film will get an IMAX release in theaters globally on Nov. 25, ahead of its debut on Netflix on Dec. 23. This comes after 2025 ended with a couple of major Netflix movies getting that treatment, Jay Kelly and Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, the former of which became one of the biggest snubs at the 2026 Oscars.

This movie will continue Pitt’s impressive legacy with the Cliff Booth character, for which he won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2019’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Netflix shared the first official images from this sequel in April, which teased a shadow-cloaked visual style that differed greatly from the sun-drenched visuals seen in the original movie. This helps tease a darker and grittier story for Cliff Booth, now sporting a mustache, as he returns to action nearly a decade after his original story in this universe.

While many of these first images censored and obscured any profanity and violence, the sequel is widely expected to receive the same R-rating that the original movie received. As the wait continues for a first full trailer for Pitt and Tarantino’s return to this world, expectations are high for this exceedingly rare sequel-style story from the longtime directing legend.
