Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt have returned as Miranda Priestly, Andy Sachs and Emily Charlton in The Devil Wears Prada 2, and the comeback has clearly worked at the global box office. The much-awaited sequel, arriving nearly two decades after the original, opened to a massive USD 233.3 million debut and went on to cross USD 300 million in its first weekend.

As the film continues to bring in big numbers, a new report has also put the spotlight on the paychecks of its lead stars.

Meryl, Anne And Emily Reportedly Earned USD 12.5 Million Each

According to a Variety report, Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt were each paid USD 12.5 million for reprising their iconic roles in The Devil Wears Prada 2. The three actors reportedly brokered a deal that ensured equal pay for all of them.

What makes the reported arrangement interesting is that Meryl, being the senior-most star and one of Hollywood’s most celebrated actors, could have reportedly commanded a higher salary. Insiders believe she may have been able to ask for close to USD 15 million for her return as Miranda Priestly. However, the report suggests that the actors opted for parity instead.

Box Office Bonuses May Push Their Earnings Higher

The salaries may not be the final figure for the three stars. Reports suggest that box office bonuses could also be part of their deals, which may push their total earnings closer to USD 20 million each by the end of the film’s theatrical run.

Given the film’s strong opening and early momentum, those backend bonuses could significantly increase their overall pay.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 Scores Big At Box Office

The Devil Wears Prada 2 was among the most anticipated Hollywood releases of the year, largely because it reunited the original film’s beloved trio after 20 years. The sequel has benefited from nostalgia, strong word of mouth and several callbacks to the 2006 classic that first turned Miranda, Andy and Emily into pop-culture staples.

The film is also expected to command a strong OTT deal, although details about its digital premiere have not been revealed yet. With its theatrical success already making headlines, The Devil Wears Prada 2 has not only brought the fashion-world franchise back into the spotlight but also reaffirmed the box office power of its leading women.
