The Odyssey has pulled off a remarkable record at the box office. In just its second week, it has garnered enough to challenge the biggest blockbuster movies of Hollywood.

Directed by Christopher Nolan, the movie has crossed the $700 million mark at the global box office. And the time it has taken to achieve this milestone is just 12 days. Having a production budget of $250 million, The Odyssey’s box office record on Day 12 comes on the back of an overwhelming fan response.

Nolan’s film had an impressive opening weekend. It garnered $123,502,900, which was 38.5% of the total gross. Currently, the film has collected $320,553,575 from the domestic box office. Speaking about its worldwide performance, the epic grossed $362,631,000, according to data provided by The Numbers.

How The Odyssey performed compared to Hollywood’s biggest hits

Such a performance at the box office has inevitably brought in comparisons with other blockbusters of Hollywood. But in most cases, The Odyssey’s record has remained unscathed. For example, Star Wars: The Force Awakens took 16 days to reach a similar milestone.

Marvel’s biggest hit so far, Avengers: Endgame also took a similar time to surpass the $700 million mark. However, when it comes to Spider-Man and Avatar, Nolan’s latest hit dwarfs them significantly. Spider-Man: No Way Home and Avatar managed to get to the milestone in 32 and 72 days, respectively.

Nolan’s version of Homer’s epic, shot on IMAX cameras, navigates the story of Odysseus. Following the victory in the Trojan War, the king of Ithaca wandered for 10 years before ultimately finding his way back home. The movie goes in depth to explain the perils that Odysseus faced and how he managed to come out of those situations.

Nolan included a star-studded cast, which had Matt Damon take on the titular character. The movie also features Anne Hathaway (Penelope), Tom Holland (Telemachus), Robert Pattinson (Antinous), Zendaya (Athena), and more. Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey commenced its theatrical run on July 17, 2026.
