It’s no secret that The Pitt‘s second season was much bigger than its first — HBO Max‘s internal data shows the series averaging 15.4 million viewers over its first 90 days, more than 50 percent higher than the first season in 2025. The show recorded more than a billion viewing minutes in Nielsen’s streaming ratings 13 times in its 15 weeks this season.

The year-to-year growth is even more pronounced in some new data from Nielsen — which shows every week of The Pitt’s second season outpacing its first, and sometimes more than doubling the same week from season one.

The company’s regular weekly streaming totals include all episodes of a series. For example, the 1.13 billion minutes of viewing for The Pitt from April 6-12 includes time viewers spent watching episodes from season one and earlier episodes of season two, in addition to the one that premiered that week. The new data isolates the totals for season two and shows huge improvements year to year, particularly through the middle of the season.

In weeks four through seven, season two of The Pitt more than doubled its weekly viewing time from a year earlier. Weeks three and eight came close to that, improving by about 98 percent each. The only week where season one is within 10 percent of season two is week 14 — but that’s largely because The Pitt had a two-episode series premiere in 2025, which meant the season finale debuted in week 14.

Through its full season two run, The Pitt racked up just over 11 billion minutes of viewing time, according to Nielsen. That’s 92 percent more than the 5.72 billion minutes for the first season.

From Jan. 5-April 19, all episodes of The Pitt accumulated 16.86 billion minutes of viewing. Season two accounts for 65 percent of that total, with the percentage climbing fairly steadily throughout the season. The second season premiere made up only about 35 percent of the weekly total for Jan. 5-11 — no surprise since it was available for only part of that week (it debuted Jan. 8) and was less than 10 percent of the series’ total running time at that point.

By week four of this season, however, season two made up the majority of watch time for The Pitt. Starting in week 11, the current season accounted for more than 75 percent of all viewing for the series, according to Nielsen. The percentage dipped some for the final week of the season, possibly because viewers were doing some catch-up viewing on the first installment.
