After its much-discussed awards season, Timothée Chalamet‘s A24 feature Marty Supreme is spinning toward its streaming release.

HBO Max announced Friday that director Josh Safdie‘s acclaimed sports drama is set to begin streaming April 24 on the platform. Marty Supreme hit theaters Dec. 25 and stars Chalamet, Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A’zion, Kevin O’Leary, Tyler Okonma (aka Tyler, the Creator), Abel Ferrara, Fran Drescher, Luke Manley and Koto Kawaguchi.

Marty Supreme centers on Marty Mauser (Chalamet), an ambitious table tennis player in New York City during the 1950s who is willing to do whatever it takes to become a world champion.

Safdie helmed the film from a script he co-wrote with Ronald Bronstein. Chalamet, Safdie, Bronstein, Eli Bush and Anthony Katagas served as producers.

Among the movie’s nine Academy Award nominations were nods for best picture, best actor for Chalamet, best director for Safdie and best screenplay for Safdie and Bronstein. Chalamet earned a Golden Globe Award for his lead performance, but the film came up empty-handed at Sunday’s Oscar ceremony.

Some of Chalamet’s comments throughout the awards campaign were heavily scrutinized. This included the star saying last month that he would not want to be involved with an art form that “no one cares about” and citing ballet and opera as examples. The remarks were referenced at multiple points throughout the Oscar telecast.

In his review of Marty Supreme for The Hollywood Reporter, chief film critic David Rooney wrote that, “as a kinetic portrait of a life in perpetual motion, Marty Supreme is a wonder.”
