The Odyssey exceeded expectations, generating $911.4 million in just a few weeks after its release. Spider-Man: Brand New Day, in which Holland returns as Peter Parker and Zendaya plays his love interest M.J., earned an impressive $927 million during its opening weekend alone.

Zendaya and Tom Holland could become the highest-grossing actors in Hollywood history in a single calendar year thanks to their appearances in two of the most successful films of 2026 – Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day, The Independent reported.

In the adaptation of Homer’s epic, Holland plays Telemachus, the son of Odysseus, portrayed by Matt Damon, while Zendaya takes on the role of Athena – the hero’s divine guide during his journey back to Ithaca after the Trojan War.

The Odyssey exceeded expectations, generating $911.4 million in just a few weeks after its release. Spider-Man: Brand New Day, in which Holland returns as Peter Parker and Zendaya plays his love interest M.J., earned an impressive $927 million during its opening weekend alone.

The combined box office revenue from the two productions has already reached $1.838 billion, with the figure expected to continue rising as both films expand their global releases.

Zendaya further boosted her box office record with The Drama, one of the most successful productions from studio A24 this year, and in December she will appear in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Three. The film is expected to attract significant attention, particularly due to its IMAX release and the success of its predecessors.

Holland could also add further earnings to his total if he appears in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, which is expected to be one of the year’s biggest cinematic events.

The current record for the highest annual box office earnings by an actor belongs to Samuel L. Jackson, who accumulated $6.4 billion in 2019 thanks to appearances in Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: Far From Home and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Some of those roles, however, were brief appearances, and without the revenue from Star Wars, Jackson’s total would have been around $2.5 billion.

Holland currently ranks second on the list with $4.367 billion, followed by Scarlett Johansson with $4.024 billion. With the continued success of The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, as well as the upcoming release of Dune: Part Three, Zendaya has a realistic chance of becoming the highest-grossing actress in a single year in cinema history. | BGNES
