Serbian director Miroslav Terzić (Stitches) is back, and he is back with full cinematic intensity. His new film, 3 Weeks After, starts off with a group of high-school students in Serbia embarking on a field trip to Bulgaria. So far, so good. But there is tension simmering below the surface.
When their coach breaks down, the adolescents and their teachers find themselves confronted with a painful topic, a tragedy actually, by a quieter pupil – his best friend’s recent suicide. Who or what is to blame for his death? What factors played a role in it? Things soon threaten to get really heated.
The feature, whose story is based on several true stories, world premieres in the Crystal Globe Competition of the 60th edition of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF) on July 7.
The young cast is led by Jovan Ginić (Lost Country). Also part of the ensemble cast are Klara Hrvanović, Andjela Alavirević, Tihana Lazović Trifunović and Branislav Trifunović. Three Weeks After was written by Terzić, Vladimir Arsenijević and Bojan Vuletić. The cinematographer is Damjan Radovanović, while editing is courtesy of Marko Ferković. Bendita Film Sales is handling world sales.
THR can now exclusively premiere the trailer for the film. In it, you will get a look at some of the school kids and teachers. And you will get the feeling that some are happier than others that the quiet kid with the last name Tzotzic is coming along on the trip. Yes, there is music and dance, but also tension and, it seems, a lot of things are left unsaid. Other things that do get said make you wonder, such as a comment from one of the teachers during a phone call, which adds to the uncomfortable vibe.
