Jay-Z is getting an eight-part documentary series directed by super-producer Rick Rubin, HBO announced on Thursday.

Over eight episodes, Rubin will interview the rapper “to discuss his music, lyrics, life experiences, and creative process,” HBO said in a press release. HBO didn’t share a release date but said the series would come this fall.

Both Rubin and Jay-Z are executive producing the series, along with  Daniel Kaluuya. Leila Mattimore and David Rohde are listed as producers. Rubin and Jay-Z have no shortage of history, as Rubin produced the rapper’s iconic song “99 Problems” from Jay’s 2003 album The Black Album.

“Everyone had this same experience, except I was the one that could stand on the soapbox and, like, articulate what we were going through,” Jay tells Rubin in a brief teaser HBO released on Thursday.

“Without the pain, you wouldn’t have done the work,” Rubin replied. As the rapper responded: “The pain, you don’t say it’s necessary, you don’t say you need it, but if it’s there, you use it.”

The series comes amid a particularly active year for Carter, who is in the midst of celebrating the 30th anniversary of his iconic album Reasonable Doubt, while The Blueprint turns 25 as well. He performed at the Roots Picnic in Philadelphia in May, and he’s playing a set of three much-anticipated shows at Yankee Stadium in July. He’s also expected to play a concert in Paris in September, and Los Angeles in October.
