John Cena is now as well known outside of a WWE ring as he ever was inside one thanks to his recent years in some of the biggest films around.
Cena has starred in recent big-screen successes like Coyote v Acme, Suicide Squad, and many more.
However, it wasn’t always sunshine and roses for the 17-time WWE champion.
Indeed, some of his earlier films such as The Marine, 12 Rounds and Legendary were all panned by film critics and fans.
But according to Cena, there was a key reason behind him failing in Hollywood at that time.
John Cena says his love for WWE cost him in Hollywood
WWE has been a pathway for many to make their name in Hollywood. The likes of The Rock, Roman Reigns and even years ago, Hulk Hogan, have all dipped their toe into the movie world with mixed success.

Of course, things have to start somewhere and oftentimes, early movies can flop.
And speaking on the Conan O’Brien show this week, WWE legend Cena explained why he initially failed to get going.
“The reason I can control those movies sucked, I wasn’t wholeheartedly invested. I wanted to be in the ring because as a 27-year-old spending 15 hours a day to watch one thing blow up in a library quiet set is not near as cool as being in an arena in Lexington with 22,000 people going apes–t to be like, ‘This is the f—-ing best thing I’ve ever seen in my life.’ And then you drive to the next town and do it again. I wanted to be there. My focus was elsewhere,” Cena explained.
“By the time I auditioned for Trainwreck, I was like, ‘Hey, you’ve already been run out of the movie business once. And you’re also doing okay. You have other things going on.’ I was hosting the Today Show, I was reading the news, doing live programming. I was having fun.
“I just told myself, ‘If you’re going to get back into this, put the same amount of passion you do in wrestling into this and at the very least you won’t regret your choices.’ And that’s exactly what I did in that audition. I’m sitting with very funny people, I have no business being there, but I didn’t give a f— and just let it go.”
With Cena now a certified Hollywood superstar, it just shows that your first few movies don’t have to define you.
Cena will remain a legend in the WWE world forever. And on his current path, he’s on his way to being recognised in a similar light on the big screen.
