Amal Clooney is building a red carpet reputation for the ages.
Married to Oscar-winning actor George Clooney, the 48-year-old human rights lawyer has graced the coveted walkway countless times, accompanying her partner to his film premieres, galas, award shows and more. Each appearance has brought a similar beauty aesthetic — quiet yet striking, modern yet timeless, often featuring a version of a bouffant hairstyle and doe eyes courtesy of Dimitris Giannetos.

This is certainly true of her Venice Film Festival through the years. Here, Clooney has routinely taken cues from Old Hollywood hair and makeup trends, pairing bombshell blowouts and finger waves with bold lips and full brows à la Ava Gardner, Marilyn Monroe and Katharine Hepburn. Ahead, WWD takes a look at her best beauty moments at the festival over the last decade.

In 2017, Clooney went all in on Old Hollywood beauty, styling a voluminous bob with wide barrel waves that framed her face. Her hair was also combed into a side part, with the left half pinned firmly behind her left ear. With such feminine sophistication happening north of her brows, Clooney put on a flirty face, curling only her top lashes and staining her lips in a faded red hue.

At the “Wolfs” premiere in 2024, Clooney kept her chocolate brown hair straight, with loose waves and caramel-colored highlights creating movement throughout. Her makeup was equally soft and minimal, with glazed cheekbones and a dewy complexion. Bubblegum blush complemented her pastel yellow gown, accenting the sparkly rose hue on her eyes and the modest touch of gloss on her lips. The finished product was full glam, minus the stage drama.

Last year, on the carpet outside the “Jay Kelly” premiere, Clooney appeared with lightly curled extensions, a rose-taupe lip, pink shimmer shadow, and a gumdrop highlight over the apples of her cheeks. She hadn’t quite adopted the bell-bottom blowout yet, though her ends showed signs she was headed in that direction. Now, of course, the fit-and-flare silhouette is much more defined, blow-dried 80 percent of the way with a slight bounce at the end. The technique plays on the beloved styles of the 1970s, minus the wedge chop and shag, but add an even trim with razor layers.
Here, how to achieve Clooney’s modern bell-bottom blowout at home.
