Harry Styles kicked off his historic 30-show run at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night with a new setlist, a first-ever live performance of one of his newest songs and a Dolly Parton tribute — with plenty of stars, including his fiancée, in attendance.
Night one of Styles’ residency, which will make up all his U.S. show dates this year for his Together, Together tour, opened with “Dance No More,” a track from his latest album, Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally, released in March. The song set the tone for an energetic return to the “World’s Most Famous Arena,” with fans screaming and belting out the lyrics as Styles danced across the neon, oval-shaped stage. It also replaced “Are You Listening Yet?” as the opener.
“How about those Knicks?” Styles said to the crowd, nodding to the New York Knicks winning the 2026 NBA Championship in June for the first time since 1973, as he transformed their home base into Harry’s House.
Styles then surprised the audience by playing “Carolina,” a song from his 2017 self-titled debut solo album that he hasn’t performed live in years. The high-energy vibes continued with “Adore You” and “Watermelon Sugar” from 2019’s Fine Line, as well as “As It Was,” “Music for a Sushi Restaurant,” “Satellite” and “Cinema” from 2022’s Harry’s House. At the top of the show, Styles thanked his opening act, Jamie xx, before sharing a story about his history at the venue. The Together, Together tour marks his first U.S. tour in three years, while Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally is his first album in four years. He’s made himself at home at MSG in the past, as reflected with his banner hanging in the rafters when he played 15 shows at the venue back in 2022.
“I was told a story when I got here today. I had the great privilege of playing this building for the first time when I was 18 years old,” the Grammy winner said, referencing One Direction’s debut at MSG in 2012. “There’s a gentleman who was working here then, who shared with me that when I got out of the car that day, I kissed the floor and said, ‘I’ve made it to Madison Square Garden!’”
The biggest reaction from the crowd came when “Kiwi” played from Styles’ solo debut. From the pit, The Hollywood Reporter saw one concertgoer scream, “Oh my God!” before falling to the floor.
THR also spotted plenty of stars in the audience, including Styles’ fiancée and The Batman actress Zoë Kravitz. The couple got engaged in April after eight months of dating. Additional stars included CBS Mornings host Gayle King and Charlie’s Angels star and talk show host Drew Barrymore, who were seen standing together, dancing and filming.
As THR previously reported, toward the end of the show, Styles also took a moment to honor country music icon Dolly Parton, who died Tuesday after a battle with cancer.
“We’ve got a couple of songs left for you, but first I wanna say a proper thank you to all the musicians over the years who have inspired me,” Styles told the crowd. “Dolly, we love you. Thank you so much.”
Parton’s 1974 song “I Will Always Love You” then played as audience members held up their phone flashlights. Barrymore and King were also spotted singing along, with Barrymore appearing to get teary-eyed.
Night one closed with Styles’ five-minute electropop track “Aperture.” The Together, Together tour continues through Halloween, aka “Harryween,” Styles’ holiday dress-up concert.
