GMA Network’s Hollywood correspondent Janet Nepales won two awards at the Los Angeles Press Club’s 68th Annual Southern California Journalism Awards held at The Crystal Ballroom of the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.

Nepales received two awards for her stories that appeared on GMA News Online. She got a second-place award under the News – Foreign Correspondents category for her article, “Fil-Am Jonathan Eusebio Talks of His Feature Film Debut, ‘Love Hurts'” and a third-place award under the Entertainment News or Feature – Foreign Correspondents category for her story, “Historic Wins of Sean Baker and Anora at the Oscars.”

Nepales, the first Filipina voting member and Associate of the Golden Globe Awards, was recognized by the Filipina Women’s Network (FWN) as one of the “100 Most Influential Filipino Women in the US” in 2012 and one of the “100 Most Influential Filipino Women in the World” in 2013.

A University of Santo Tomas journalism graduate, she is a co-author of the first FWN book, “DISRUPT: Filipina Women: Proud. Loud. Leading Without A Doubt,” and the author of the coffee table book, “FASHION. Filipino. Hollywood. The World.”

Also honored during the annual event held last Sunday, June 28, were Kenny Chesney (The Public Service Award for Contributions to Civic Life), Carol Sobel (The Guardian Award for Contributions to Press Freedom), Maria Ressa (The Daniel Pearl Award for Courage and Integrity in Journalism), Rob Fukuzaki (The Joseph M. Quinn Award for Lifetime Achievement), and Craig Melvin (The President’s Award for Impact on Media).

The annual gala was dedicated to former LAPC President Will Lewis, who passed away last December at the age of 94. —MGP, GMA News
