Zoey Deutch loves to genre-hop in her film career.

The 31-year-old actress is always looking for new challenges in her movie career, with Zoey admitting that she never wants to “do the same thing again ever”.

Speaking to People, Zoey explained: “I enjoy doing a completely different genre after I finish one thing. I don’t want to do the same thing again ever.”

The movie star admits that she’s fulfilling a lifelong dream by working in Hollywood.

She said: “I don’t remember a time when I didn’t want to act. [My parents are] incredibly supportive and present, and I couldn’t be luckier. I think that’s one of the best things for a crazy industry like this.”

Zoey stars in the new Netflix romcom Voicemails for Isabelle, and the actress has recalled being reduced to tears by the film’s script.

She shared: “I remember the exact spot where I was reading [the script]. I was on the beach with my childhood friends that I’ve known my whole life, and I was sobbing.”

Zoey also revealed that she already has her eyes fixed on a new career challenge.

Asked what she’d like to do next, Zoey replied: “I have never done a psychological thriller or a horror movie, and I would love to do that.”

Zoey recently admitted that she felt “very hesitant” to make a romcom for many years.

The actress has returned to the romcom genre to star in Voicemails for Isabelle, the Netflix film about an aspiring baker navigating loss after the death of her sister – but Zoey admits she was initially hesitant to make another romcom.

Zoey – who previously starred in Set It Up, the 2018 romcom – told People: “I’m, quite frankly, very hesitant to do movies of this genre, and the reason that I wanted to do this one was because it felt deep and about grief and about love after loss and about sisters.

“I was reluctant to do another one, for sure, but I feel super grateful and couldn’t love this movie more.”

Voicemails for Isabelle has the theme of romance at its core. But Zoey was ultimately drawn to the film’s exploration of sisterhood.

She explained: “I totally fell in love with the element of the sister love story.

“My sister is my favourite person in the world, my best friend, and it really moved me. I thought it was funny and romantic, but very deep and heart-wrenching.”

Zoey also feels she’s entered a “new era” in her career.

The actress said: “I’m not 22 anymore. I feel much more aligned and grounded, and I also feel like I’m in a second chapter or new era of my career. And I just feel really inspired and excited and a lot less anxious, which is nice to feel, because I spent most of my life just identifying as an incredibly anxious person, so I feel very different.”
