While he’s playing a superhero in new the Prime Video series Spider-Noir, Nicolas Cage is also getting ready to reprise a very different role: serial killer Longlegs.

The star led 2024’s horror thriller Longlegs, which saw Maika Monroe as an FBI agent investigating a series of murder-suicides in Oregon that are connected to Cage’s killer. The movie was a breakout hit, becoming the highest-grossing independent film of the past decade, and in April it was revealed that Cage and director Osgood Perkins are working on another Longlegs film.

At Spider-Noir‘s New York premiere, Cage told The Hollywood Reporter that he and Perkins have become good friends and in returning to Longlegs, “I guess you could say I have the pride of ownership of that character. That character is personal to me because I was influenced by my mom — not that my mom was crazy like that, she wasn’t satanic, but I don’t want someone else playing my mom, so if they’re gonna do it, you’re doing it with me.”

In a surprising change, the new film is being set up at Paramount, rather than with Neon who was behind the original. “I don’t know what the story is and I have not met the new Paramount,” Cage continued, referencing the new ownership under David Ellison. “I have worked with the old Paramount; my whole family has had a lot of projects there, so to me there’s really a lot of history there — Face/Off, The Godfather. I hope that whatever happens, they have the same regard for movies and filmmakers.”

Details about the follow-up — which has been dated for Jan. 14, 2028 — have not been revealed, but sources told THR this new Longlegs is not a sequel but something “set in the Longlegs universe.” The 2024 film earned $128 million worldwide on a budget of less than $10 million, becoming Neon’s highest-grossing domestic outing.
