Dan Trachtenberg, the filmmaker behind recent Predator movies Prey and Badlands, will be tackling an animated feature based on the graphic novel Freddy the 13th.
Yehudi Mercado is behind the graphic novel about a family vacation gone awry, when fun Uncle Freddy accidentally kills the Boogeyman and takes on his powers, and must go on a quest to break the curse.
The Paramount Animation project, which is currently untitled, was announced today out of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. Paramount said that the project will infuse elements of the horror genre into a children’s animation for a “wholesome PG-rated scares and laughs to the whole family.”
Mercado will co-direct, with Trachtenberg and Ben Rosenblatt set to produce.
Next up, Paramount Animation will release PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie on Aug. 14, 2026. The division, run by Jennifer Dodge, recently announced an animated movie based on the long-running competition series Survivor, which will be set in the animal kingdom, and the holiday animation The Naughty List from Robert Rodriguez.
Trachtenberg, repped by CAA, Untitled and Johnson Shapiro, is also behind 10 Cloverfield Lane, as well as episodes of Black Mirror and The Boys.
