In the wake of his Project Hail Mary success, Ryan Gosling will receive this year’s American Cinematheque Award.

The annual American Cinematheque Awards gala is set for Nov. 2 at the Beverly Hilton, and serves as an annual fundraiser for the non-profit organization that handles programming for the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica, Los Feliz 3 Theatre in Los Feliz and Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. The ceremony, now in its 40th year, celebrates an actor’s entire career and typically welcomes a starry group of the honoree’s friends and collaborators as presenters.

“Ryan represents everything this honor stands for — an artist of extraordinary range, depth and fearless creative commitment. From his early work in The Believer and Half Nelson, for which he earned an Academy Award nomination, to his breathtaking performances in Drive, Blue Valentine, La La Land, and his revelatory, scene-stealing turn in Barbie, Ryan has demonstrated a remarkable ability to inhabit characters with intelligence, vulnerability, and undeniable charisma,” American Cinematheque board chair Rick Nicita said in a statement.

Nicita continued, “Most recently, his stunning lead performance in Project Hail Mary captivated audiences around the world, proving his extraordinary ability to carry a film with grace, wit, and profound emotional power. The film’s remarkable global box office success and overwhelming critical acclaim stand as a testament to Ryan’s singular star power and artistic gifts. What distinguishes Ryan is not simply his talent, but his unwavering dedication to meaningful, adventurous filmmaking. He consistently chooses projects that challenge audiences and inspire his fellow artists. The American Cinematheque is honored to celebrate this truly exceptional talent.”

Gosling produced as well as starred in Project Hail Mary, and next year he will lead Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter, a standalone feature set several years after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. He joins recent American Cinematheque honorees Michael B. Jordan, Jessica Chastain, Helen Mirren, Ryan Reynolds, Scarlett Johansson, Spike Lee and Charlize Theron.
