Sabrina Carpenter is remembering Dolly Parton.
Parton died Tuesday in Nashville at 80, her family announced. She had been admitted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center on Friday morning with kidney and autoimmune issues, per TMZ.
“oh dolly,” Carpenter started an Instagram post with a broken heart emoji. “the only thing i could say after we first met was ‘she really is an angel walking the earth’ and ‘we look like we could be sisters!’”
“i will cherish our laughter and conversations and i will keep your wisdom, your playful outlook on life, and perfect sense of humor in my pocket for the rainy days. there will never be another you and how lucky are we all to have experienced your singular magic as well as your once in a lifetime voice, songs, and heart. your light will be something the world will search forever to find again,” she wrote. “i will always love you.”
Parton and Carpenter joined forces for the deluxe version of the latter singer’s Short n’ Sweet album, where the two-time Oscar nominee was featured on “Please Please Please.” They also starred in a music video for the track together, which has amassed over 15 million views on YouTube.
The “Manchild” singer celebrated the release of the music video with an Instagram post at the time. She wrote, “Dolly and me singing in a pickup truck!!!!!! I am so honored to have one of my biggest idols on a song that means so much to me. Short n’ Sweet deluxe is out now!”
Last September, the “Jolene” singer announced she was postponing a set of Las Vegas concerts to deal with “some health challenges.” In May, she canceled her Las Vegas residency but continued to put on a brave front, telling her fans that she was OK.
Tributes poured in following the announcement of Parton’s death, with Billy Ray Cyrus, Jane Fonda, Reba McEntire and Kacey Musgraves among those remembering the queen of country music.
