Hollywood’s box office has made history. Breaking a 13-year-old record, North American box office revenue during the 2026 summer movie season reached approximately $4.76 billion in ticket sales. One of the biggest drivers of the success was Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

The film has also generated significant interest among audiences in Bangladesh since its release. According to unofficial box office tracking, the movie earned around Tk 124.2 million in the country in just 24 days following its release on July 30.

Amid the film’s global success, Hollywood’s summer box office has now set a new record. According to RentraK, ticket sales in North America between May 1 and September 7 generated approximately $4.76 billion, equivalent to around Tk 5.85 trillion.

This surpassed the previous record of $4.755 billion set in 2013.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day, The Odyssey and Toy Story 5 played major roles in this year’s summer box office success. Spider-Man: Brand New Day has earned approximately $923.5 million in North America, or around Tk 113.5 billion. Its worldwide gross has reached approximately $2.4 billion, equivalent to around Tk 2.95 trillion.

However, two factors need to be considered when comparing this year’s record with the previous one. The 2013 figure was not adjusted for inflation. In addition, this year’s summer box office period lasted 130 days, compared with 123 days in 2013.

According to RentraK, for the first time in history, box office revenue exceeded $1 billion in each of the four months of the summer season—May, June, July and August. Revenue reached $1.07 billion in May, $1.08 billion in June, $1.18 billion in July and approximately $1.27 billion in August.

The Odyssey also enjoyed major success. The film grossed approximately $589 million in North America, equivalent to around Tk 72.4 billion. Its worldwide gross stands at approximately $1.63 billion, or around Tk 200 billion. Of that total, approximately $486 million came from IMAX screenings alone.

The season’s success was not limited to big-budget franchises. Films popular with younger audiences, including Obsession and Backrooms, also performed well at the box office. This has further strengthened the post-pandemic trend of audiences returning to cinemas.

Not every film, however, enjoyed the same success. Fall 2: Deadpoint and Onslaught failed to perform as expected. Meanwhile, Coyote vs. Acme secured a strong position at the box office after receiving a positive response from audiences.

Overall, the record-breaking 2026 summer box office is being viewed as a major sign of Hollywood’s post-pandemic recovery. And Spider-Man has emerged as one of the biggest faces of that comeback.
