Supergirl has begun its box office run. Director Craig Gillespie’s DC Studios superhero movie kicked things off with a $7.8 million start from Thursday previews.

The Warner Bros. title follows last summer’s Superman and stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, the cousin of the Man of Steel.

After a cameo in 2025’s Superman, Alcock returns as Supergirl for the second big-screen feature in the DC slate cooked up by bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran.

Reviews have been mixed, with The Hollywood Reporter’s chief film critic David Rooney deeming it an “uninspired slog,” although praising “Milly Alcock’s hard-edged performance making her an appealingly punky protagonist.”

After starring as Aquaman for the previous DC regime, Jason Momoa joins Alcock as comics bad boy Lobo. Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham round out the cast, while David Corenswet reprises his role as Superman.

Also opening this weekend is Paramount‘s Jackass: Best and Last, which collected $1.2 million from Thursday previews. Director Jeff Tremaine’s fifth feature in the ribald Johnny Knoxville-led franchise is eyeing $10 million domestically, with the benefit of a budget of just $10 million.

Following 2022’s Jackass Forever, the latest installment sees the return of Knoxville, Steve-O, Chris Pontius and the rest of the pain-seeking cohorts.

In his review of Jackass: Best and Last, THR critic Frank Scheck called Knoxville an “appealing performer” and quipped, “If you’re nostalgic to once again see Steve-O strapped into a porta potty and slung into the air only to be covered in excrement, you’re in luck.”
