When distant movie historians look back on 2026, they’ll be in their rights to butcher a famous quote as never before have so many movies featuring so few actors been seen by so many.

Whichever way you look at it, 2026 will go down as a year when a select group of movie stars were everywhere — to the point that their colleagues must be wondering how there aren’t more roles to go around. The optimistic read is that 2026 has surprisingly given us the long-awaited return of the monoculture. At any point this summer, you really could go into your corner shop and talk about The Odyssey, the World Cup, or if it happened to be a Bodega, the Knicks.

But, I digress. What we’re here to do is to look at the greatest cinematic ball-hoggers of 2026, which I’ve arranged below in descending order — in the case of a tie, contestants will be separated by purely abstract means.

10. Colman Domingo – 2 Movies, 1 Show

Relatively speaking, Coleman Domingo’s two movie haul is nothing special, but coming off the back of his 5 movie 2025 (I’m counting Dead Man’s Wire as last year), we’re allowing him to carry some of that aura over.

The recently ubiquitous and Oscar-nominated breakout of HBO’s Euphoria (the final season of which aired this year, too) found A-list stardom relatively late in his career, which has been heartening to see — not least for the fact that he seems to be an absolute gent, and a stunningly well-dressed one at that.

For 2026, Domingo kicked things off with a rough-around-the-edges, patriarchal supporting turn in Michael before cresting mid-summer with a delightfully tweedy turn in Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day. Something tells me it won’t be the last time those two work together.

9. Jon Bernthal – 2 Movies, 1 Shows, 2 Specials

Jon Bernthal in Punisher: One Last Kill

Granted, they haven’t been the biggest parts in terms of dialogue, but Jon Bernthal can at least boast the widest range of output of any actor on this list. This has been welcome news for movie fans, as he’s exactly the kind of actor who you’re always happy to see — regardless of whether he’s hiding out in wooden horses or returning from the dead for a surprise episode of your favourite cooking show.

Indeed, in 2026 Bernthal chalked up six episodes of His & Hers, a standalone episode of The Bear, an ultraviolent Punisher special for Disney Plus, a more cuddly performance as Frank Castle in Spider-Man: Brand New Day and, of course, his Menelaus via Massachusetts performance in The Odyssey. That is solid work.

8. Tom Holland – 2 Movies… But Maybe 3?

Tom Holland in The Odyssey

Considering that a day hasn’t gone by in the last few months when Tom Holland didn’t pop up on my feed cracking jokes or eating spicy wings, it’s slightly alarming that he’s only actually had two movies this year — although he could “return” in another.

Then again, the one that he starred in, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, is currently inching towards the top five highest-grossers of all time; and the one he co-starred in, The Odyssey, could very well end up winning Best Picture next year.

Holland might not be near the top of this list but he is currently, without question, the most bankable star in Hollywood.

7. Josh Brolin – 3 Movies

Josh Brolin in Dune

One busy actor whose name hasn’t been popping up on those busy actor infographics is Josh Brolin. This is because precisely zero of his three 2026 movies have been released, but who doesn’t love a late bloomer?

Brolin is set to have a few hectic months ahead of him as he presumably goes on a three-pronged promotional campaign for Ridley Scott’s The Dog Stars (a dystopian thriller with Jacob Elordi), Brian Duffield’s Whalefall (a Mellvillian nightmare with Austin Abrams) and Dune: Part Three (you know this one).

Added to that the more than slim possibility of a Thanos-shaped cameo in Doomsday and you’ve got yourself one hell of a Q4.

6. Jason Momoa – 4 Movies

Jason Momoa as Lobo in Supergirl

The next five stars are more or less tied for second place. First up, I’m going to put Jason Momoa at 6th. The actor definitely has four credits to his name this year, though it’s too soon to say how big the biggest of them will end up being.

So far, we’ve already seen him in Wrecking Crew, a perfectly enjoyable action streamer, as well Supergirl, which frankly might be the year’s biggest bomb in terms of box-office expectations. Thankfully, Momoa will get the chance to make up for that one when Street Fighter (in which he plays Blanka) and Dune: Part Three (reprising his role as Duncan Idaho) are released.

5. Rebecca Ferguson – 4 Movies

Timothee Chalamet and Rebecca Ferguson in Dune

Next up we have Rebecca Ferguson, with three already released movies and another on the way in December.

Whether anyone will remember Mercy (objectively bad), Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man (pretty good), or The Magic Faraway Tree (pending) in 12 months time is anyone guess, but we can rest assured that they’ll remember her third turn as Lady Jessica in Dune Part Three.

4. Zendaya – 4 Movies, 1 Show

Zendaya in Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Zendaya can boast one project more than the next two people on our list, but seeing as we’re talking movies I’m allowing myself to be flexible.

There’s no denying that Zendaya was the lead in Euphoria and (just about) in The Drama, but her Athena and M.J., however significant they might be in their respective stories, did not get a huge amount of screentime in either movie. We’ll have to wait and see what happens to her character, Chani, in Dune: Part Three.

3. Robert Pattinson – 4 Movies

Robert Pattinson in The Odyssey

Real ones have been on the Pattinson train since as far back as David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis, but 2026 is definitely the year when the last remaining Patz skeptics finally gave in to his remarkable workrate and range — not to mention his seemingly limitless memeability.

Earlier this year, Pattinson kicked things off with a challenging lead turn in The Drama and followed that with an MVP performance as beggar-hating Antinous in The Odyssey. Next up for Pattinson will be a red carpet walk at the Venice Film Festival for Primetime before he enters the Dune-iverse to play the villain, Scytale.

The way the internet reacted to his appearances in both those movies’ trailers should tell you everything you need to know about his current levels of juice.

2. Sandra Hüller – 4 Movies

Sandra Huller in Project Hail Mary

This was tough, but I’m going to place Sandra Hüller above our beloved Pattinson, if only for the sheer magnitude of what she’s achieved already in 2026 — and for what she might yet add to it. The question for Hüller at the moment feels less to do with if she’ll get nominated at the Oscars than which movie she’ll be nominated for — or perhaps how many.

Hüller began the year with a Best Actress win at the Berlinale for Rose, which is about to blow up all over again at the American fall festivals. Hüller then arrived in Cannes with Pawel Pawlikowski’s best-director winning Fatherland. It seemed likely that she’d complete the trio of iconic Euro fests with Digger in Venice, but that film now looks to be avoiding the Festival circuit altogether — but it also looks like it could be huge.

Oh, and she was the best part of Project Hail Mary. You can fight me on that.

1. Anne Hathaway – 5 Movies

odyssey anne hathaway

She might not have some of the major titles already mentioned in this list on her roster, but Anne Hathaway’s total of five movies in 2026 makes her our undisputed “Busiest Actor of the Year”.

To her credit, Hathaway’s five performances all come in very different movies, and many in which she is without question the lead. First up was David Lowery’s Mother Mary, a psychological thriller from A24. Next came The Devil Wears Prada 2, a hugely successful follow-up to her ‘00s fashion classic. Hathaway’s year then peaked in the middle with her phenomenal turn as Penelope in The Odyssey; and she’s currently closing out the summer with The End of Oak Street, a delightful sci-fi dino-romp that’s been warmly received by critics.

Hathaway will win her crown when she caps this all off with Verity, a more earthbound psychological thriller starring Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett. Oh, and she also just celebrated the 25-year anniversary of The Princess Diaries — all hail the queen.
