The idea of Hollywood dying has been in the back of my mind since 2019.
I feel that was the last year that Hollywood was a great experience, a time where movie theaters were so lively.
Then the pandemic came along, and for some reason, Hollywood took a huge downfall ever since.
Hollywood has started to follow a strange pattern, and they are struggling to snap out of this odd cycle.
The first thing I have noticed from Hollywood is that they are can’t stop doing sequels to cult classic movies that never needed a sequel to being with.
I think the first movie to start this trend, and I could be wrong here for this movie being the first, but I think Beetlejuice 2 was the first one to start the cycle of movies that never needed sequels.
To be fair, Beetlejuice 2 was a really good sequel, and it had the same formula of the awesome Tim Burton gothic era that I love, so I had no problem with this film.
But films like Freaky Friday and the Devil’s Prada…did we really need sequels to movies like this???
I know there are more movies that got sequels, but man, this trend got so annoying real quick.
The second thing that really pisses me off is the multiple remake announcements that we keep getting from Hollywood.
I don’t understand the need for all these remakes…for films that never needed one. And yes, some of these films desperately need remakes, but not all of them.
I recently heard about two remakes that I feel are not needed at all.
American Psycho and Possession (1981).
You’re telling me that American Psycho, a near perfect horror movie that leaves you confused in the best way, along with a terrifying performance by a great actor who played a scary serial killer…is getting a remake?
At least this movie is getting a great director, who made a fantastic horror remake of Dario Argento’s Suspiria, but the reason why I’m not as excited, is because there have been so many remake announcements, that I’ve officially tired of the remake trend.
Possession, a brilliant horror film that features two amazing performances that will leave you traumatized and terrified…DOESN’T need a remake at all. This movie should never be touched, it’s a special horror gem, and yet, Hollywood feels the need to touch this movie.
The remake trend needs to stop, because man, it’s beyond overdone at this point in the world of Hollywood.
And the last thing that I’m completely exhausted of…is the repetitive destruction of franchises that many fans love.
I don’t understand why Hollywood feels the need to continue so many franchises, to the point where they end up creating utter slop with several of these television shows.
Marvel was one of the biggest failures for a franchise. Marvel was at peak cinema back in the early 2000s, especially 2018–2019 that featured the biggest Marvel films that focused on war among our favorite heroes who were determined to take down Thanos, a tyrant of the universe.
Then after the war was over, we got the same storyline over and over that quickly got stupid fast.
The multiverse storylines were completely overdone, especially the television shows who also followed this stupid trend. I no longer cared to watch anything of Marvel, and I think in total, I have only seen THREE films from the new Marvel universe.
Star Wars also got the same treatment, and while I didn’t mind the reboot of the new Skywalker storyline with Rey Skywalker, the television shows were so overdone, I completely gave up with catching up on every single show within the Star Wars universe. It became too much, and I never thought I would get tired of hearing Star Wars.
My favorites will always be the originals, and you know what, I now have a new appreciation for the awful and hilarious prequel films too.
Hell, even Star Trek recently got an awful reboot, including Harry Potter, who did not need a remake. And both shows have now led to multiple fans who are really pissed off, all because Hollywood couldn’t keep their fans off these franchises.
Hollywood is obviously running out of ideas, and they are killing their own industry, before AI does.
It’s a massive shame, because Hollywood used to be so exciting to me, and now I feel like that excitement has completely dwindled over the years.
Hollywood is dying, and we sadly have to accept that.
