Los Angeles, July 13 – Tom Cruise’s action thriller Top Gun Maverick has surpassed the milestone of $600 million at the North American box office and becomes the only 12th movie ever to reach there. It took 47 days to get there.
The Paramount/Skydance movie has also crossed the initial domestic box office run of James Cameron’s “Titanic” of $600.78 million as “Top Gun 2” has so far scored $601.92 million. “Titanic”, however, remains the highest grossing domestic movie in Paramount Pictures’ 110-year history with its re-release grosses putting a total cume at $659.3M, which is also the 7th biggest ever.
The sequel to 1986’s movie, “Top Gun 2” is currently the highest-grossing movie of 2022 in North America and globally. It has grossed over $1.19 billion so far at the worldwide box office. During the covid-19 pandemic, the Cruise-fronted movie is the second biggest domestic and worldwide grosser after Marvel/Sony’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home” ($1.89B WW).
In the long run, “Top Gun Maverick” is likely to dethrone “Titanic” entire domestic collection to become the 7th biggest-grosser in Hollywood history. The Hollywood industry trade experts are predicting $670 million plus North America lifetime run.
“Top Gun: Maverick” is directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Paramount Pictures, Skydance, and Jerry Bruckheimer Films. The movie stars Tom Cruise, Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm along with Ed Harris and Val Kilmer, among others in prominent roles.
